Trilix has cracked the code on having the strongest possible Creative and Interactive Departments. We recently added graphic designer Molly Hlebichuk and interactive web designer Caleb Pike to our crew of designers. Molly and Caleb offer a wealth of wisdom when it comes to user-friendly web designs and stunning graphics. Like the font on their designs, their work is bold and italicized (never regular) and has us hitting Shift+1.

We enjoyed getting a download on what makes Molly and Caleb tick, personally and professionally.

Molly Hlebichuk, graphic designer

We’re thrilled that Minnesota-native Molly Hlebichuk brought her design skills to Des Moines. When she isn’t creating eye-catching graphics, Molly is busy dominating handball courts across the Midwest. We think she’s the perfect complement to our team.

Can you tell me a bit about your professional background?

I graduated in May 2021 from Minnesota State University, Mankato, with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Throughout the summer of ’21, I had an internship with BWBR Architects in St. Paul, Minnesota. Now I’m happy to join Trilix as a graphic designer.

What is your favorite aspect of the job?

I’ve always been drawn to creative pursuits, and the fact that I can work in a field where I get to be creative and expressive is fantastic. I couldn’t imagine another field of work.

Tell us about your life outside of work! Any family? How long have you lived in Iowa?

I’m from Rochester, Minnesota, and I just recently moved to Des Moines in December, so I’m trying to get used to the city. All of my family lives in Rochester, including my parents, younger brother and older sister, so they’ll have to come down to visit.

What do you like to do in your free time? Any hobbies or unique talents?

I am a very active person. I spend pretty much all my free time at the gym. I love weightlifting and grew up playing soccer, so I found lifting during the off-season. Since then, it’s been my mental outlet where I can push myself. Another hobby of mine is handball. It’s a club sport at MNSU, and I traveled around the states going to tournaments from other schools. I’ll be playing in a national tournament in February in Missouri, the biggest tournament to go to as a college level player, to wrap up my collegiate handball career. I also spend so much time outdoors camping, rollerblading and kayaking.

Favorite film, food, drink and furry friend?

  • Favorite film: My absolute favorite film is the “Truman Show.” It’s one I could watch over and over and feel like I’m watching it for the first time again. I also love the Harry Potter movies.
  • Favorite food: Chili!
  • Favorite drink: My favorite drink starts with a half-filled glass of chardonnay, a small pour of 7-Up and finish with a splash of grapefruit juice. So delicious!
  • Furry friend: I’m getting a chocolate cockapoo puppy March 12. I don’t have a name yet, but I’m super excited!

What motivates you at work?

I am motivated by colors, sounds, pictures, people … pretty much anything. As a social person, I love interacting with other people and getting their feedback. They can motivate me to do better and produce better material. That’s why I think Trilix is such a great place to work!

Caleb Pike, interactive designer

User-friendly web designs, hand-thrown pottery, an enviable beard — there’s not much Caleb Pike doesn’t excel at creating. Trilix welcomed Caleb as an interactive web designer earlier this year, and we’ve found that he’s as friendly as the websites he designs.

Can you tell me a bit about your professional background?

I went to school for graphic design and have worked as a designer for several years, mainly designing vehicle graphics and signage. Those skills grew into leadership positions in production at a few grand format printing companies in Des Moines. Eventually, I decided to take up web development. I went back to school to learn a new skill and was able to land my first job at another marketing agency. I worked there for nearly five years before I joined the team at Trilix.

What are your strengths professionally?

I am good working with a team, especially in a creative setting. When it comes to learning new software, I pick up those skills quickly. I’m constantly trying to improve myself and my abilities, whether that’s reviewing and reworking my own code or my designs.

What is your favorite aspect of the job?

My favorite part is probably the challenge. I see web development and design as almost building puzzles. I am a maker of things, so building websites aligns with what I like to do in my free time.

Tell us about your life outside of work! Any family? How long have you lived in Iowa?

I’ve lived in Iowa my entire life. I am married with two daughters, Maisie, 3, and Cadence, 13. We live in Altoona with our two dogs, Birdie and Bob.

What do you like to do in your free time? Any hobbies or unique talents?

I am a serial hobbyist. I love trying new things and completely immersing myself in whatever that is. I’ve done everything from beer-making to Ironman triathlons and bodybuilding. Currently my hobby interests are pottery and photography. I’ve been doing photography for close to 20 years and shoot a lot of live music. I also enjoy shooting portraits and anything else that might make a nice image. I picked up pottery during the pandemic after I placed a pottery wheel and a kiln in my garage.

What is your useless talent?

I’m pretty good at not shaving.

If there was a song that could serve as an anthem to your life, what would it be and why?

Right now, I’d have to say “I’m Scum” by IDLES. It’s a song about judgement and how society tends to judge based on superficial reasons and less by what counts — a person’s character.

What motivates you at work?

I enjoy building things, so building websites and solving problems is a good motivator. Also, being part of a team and making sure I come through for them drives me to do my best.
