When it comes to learning office culture and the ways of the working world, what better show to watch than NBC’s “The Office?” At least that’s how Trilix’s newest video editor, Jesse Son, is picking up on protocols. It doesn’t hurt that the cult classic television series is his new favorite show to watch, either.

Jesse recently joined the Trilix team after completing an internship with the Iowa Cubs baseball team. A 2021 graduate of Iowa State University who majored in advertising and business, he loves infusing creativity into his productions. His childhood experiences growing up in South Korea add to this differentiated viewpoint and approach.
We sat down with Jesse to learn more about his work background and hobbies.
Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and education?
I graduated from Iowa State University in 2021, majoring in advertising and minoring in business. As part of my graduation requirements, I completed an internship and was fortunate to work for the Iowa Cubs baseball team. I have always loved watching movies or documentaries, which led me to being a freelance videography and photographer. Before having my own productions, I worked as an instructor and assistant manager at a martial arts school. I’ve also served as a media coordinator for some area nonprofits.
What are your strengths professionally?
Videography requires a lot of creativity and can be time-consuming. There is no limit to being creative, and I try to think differently and creatively with every project that comes to me. Growing up in South Korea, it’s a different culture than in the U.S. I believe that upbringing gave me a wider range of experiences and views.
What is your favorite aspect of the job? What motivates you?
My favorite part of videography and production is that I get to deliver the message and interact with people in a new way! For me, the most motivating aspects of my work are collaborating with my teammates and working toward quality productions.
Tell us about your life outside of work! How long have you lived in Iowa?
My family is back in my home country of South Korea. I moved to Iowa in 2011 by myself, so it’s been about 11 years. Time really flies. I never thought I would be staying in Iowa or the U.S. for this long, but I really like it.
Favorite film, food, drink or furry friend?
Too many to share, but since I just got hired to work in an office, I will say the TV show, “The Office.” It’s funny that my English has gotten much better since I started watching it! My favorite drink is Guinness. I love dogs and cats more than anyone, but unfortunately, I am allergic to their hair.
What would be your superpower and why?
If I could have any superpower, it would be teleportation so I wouldn’t have to fly for 15 hours-plus to see my family and friends in South Korea.
Describe your perfect day.
On a perfect day, I would watch a movie I would never expect to be good, but then it would turn out great. This would make me think about how great it is for the entire day and leave me feeling like I can’t wait to watch it again.
If you could do any other kind of work, what would it be?
I have always admired those who play instruments. If I could, I would love to be a pianist or violinist.
